Ladies Are Brewin’ It For Themselves!

Last weekend we kicked off our first event for our Women’s Year for Beer with a Ladies Who Brew session. Representatives of the Community Foundation of Eastern CT’s  Windham Area Women & Girls Fund (WWGF) joined David and Stephanie, a brewer from Relic Brewing in the brewery. Leigh Duffy, Lee Terry, Mary Weinland, Lilli Rhodes and Toni Moran of WWGF rolled up their sleeves and assisted in brewing a brand new IPA. The ladies worked up a sweat heading the arduous task of adding local Connecticut malts to boiling water in the mash tun and continuously stirring the quickly thickening mixture.

This IPA will be debuted at our first FILL-anthropic event, held from 6pm till 9pm in our Post Master’s Office on Wednesday, March 8th. Attendees will have the opportunity to make a cash donation to the WWGF in exchange for the chance to offer a name suggestion for this collaborative IPA! A portion of the sales of this beer will also be donated to the WWGF until supplies run out.

The Windham Area Women and Girls Fund’s mission is to break through challenges that hold women back, and, to help build a brighter future for women and girls in the Windham area. A division of the Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut, the WWGF works to reduce domestic violence, improve services for the elderly, increase economic security and enhances youth development.

IPA Day 2014 Cover

Via Craftbeer.com:

On Thursday, Aug. 7, join beer enthusiasts, breweries and bars across the globe in a collective toast to one of craft beer’s most iconic styles: the India pale ale.

Founded in 2011, IPA Day is a universal movement created to unite the voices of craft beer enthusiasts, bloggers and brewers worldwide, using social media as the common arena for connecting the conversation.

IPA Day is not the brainchild of a corporate marketing machine, nor is it meant to serve any particular beer brand. IPA Day is opportunity for all breweries, bloggers, businesses and consumers to connect and share their love of craft beer. It is an opportunity for the entire craft beer culture to combine forces and advocate craft beer through increased education and global awareness.

Loca for Local: Beer, Cheese & Art!

Join us for a locally inspired evening.

We’ll be tapping WBC’s LTB which benefits The Local Table Project. Enjoy locally sourced ingredients in our specials, local cheeses and  local art in our Post Master’s Office, too.

First, we’ll be tapping our Local Table Ale. A portion of the proceeds from this beer will be donated to The Local Table Project, a farm-to-table dinner aimed at raising funds for the Covenant Soup Kitchen and WAIM‘s Community Garden.

Then, there’s the cheese! Perfect to enjoy with our beers, we’ll feature a variety of fine, local cheeses on our specials that evening.

This evening is made possible through a collaboration between the Willimantic Brewing Co., the Willimantic Food Co-op,  Kerri Art Studio and Gallery, Mystic Cheese Company and Cato Corner Farm.
